Percussion Ensemble (2010) premiere

I’ve settled in down here in Canberra and the newly re-formed New Music Ensemble (under the direction of myself and Dr Catherine Bowan) will have its first concert on 7 June in the ANU recital room. The concert is a collaboration with local ensemble NOMAD Percussion. So for the programme looks like:

  • Percussion Quartet – Chloë Hobbs (an ANU PhD composition student)
  • Percussion Ensemble (2010) – a piece I wrote during my own PhD studies
  • Rose, Inneres (2006) – Kunsu Shim
  • blütenlos (2004) – Gerhard Stäbler
  • New Piece (1971) – Earle Brown (conducted by our head of department, Prof Peter Tregear)
  • Not a Number – an arrangement of a piece by Apparat by one of the members of NOMAD Percussion, Veronica Bailey
  • The Stream (1987 – rediscovered 2014) – Kyle Gann (which will be a premiere)
  • A new piece for three string players and reciter by ANU undergraduate composition student, Gillian Colgan
  • And possibly Old MacDonald’s Yellow Submarine (2010?) – Erik Griswold (there are a couple of parts for edited music boxes which may prevent the piece from being performed at this concert – less than a month away now!)
